VENICE 1602. - Fundamental sefer on monetary laws, including Sefer HaMashkon on the laws relating to collateral and Mishptei HaTenoyim on the laws relating to contractual conditions by Rav Hai Gaon.  Rav Hai Gaon (969-1038), was the son and disciple of Rav Shreira Gaon, whom he succeeded as “Reish Mesivta” (Rosh Yeshiva) in Mesopotamia “Pumbedita”. He is generally considered to be the last “Gaon” of the “Gaonic” era. Halachic queries were sent to him from Germany, France, Iberia, Anatolia, The Maghreb, and even India and Ethiopia. Many of his responsa were written in Arabic and only a few of them have been preserved. Rav Hai’s disciples included Rabbeinu Chananel and several other early Rishonim. Stefansky Classics 222.
