Quoted extensively by Rashi and other early Rishonim the Sefer Ha’Aruch is a fundamental sefer for an accurate understanding of The Talmud. It is also a source for Citations of Midrashim, quotes of The Gaonim and early Minhagim. In addition, it is historically noteworthy as the only literary production of an Italian Rishon of this era. R. Nosson of Rome (1031-1106) was one of the early Rishonim. On the title page is an early signature of R. Shmuel Almosnino. This is possibly, R. Shmuel Almosnino (died 1551) who was among The Spanish Exiles. He settled in Salonica where he became one of the leading rabbinical figures and is mentioned in various halachic correspondences of the time. Stefansky Classics 525.
