ZAYIS RA’ANAN. (MAGEN AVROHOM). FIRST EDITION. DESSAU 1704. RARE! UNIDENTIFIED SIGNATURES! - CLASSICS. ZAYIS RA’ANAN. BY THE MAGEN AVROHOM. FIRST EDITION. DESSAU 1704. RARE! UNIDENTIFIED SIGNATURES! Fundamental commentary on the Yalkut Shimoni by R. Avrohom Abele HaLevi Gombiner (Magen Avraham). This commentary was subsequently published in many editions of the Yalkut Shimoni, albeit in an abridged version. It is alleged that sections of the Zayis Ra’anan may have been deliberately “changed” in the Warsaw edition (1876) by Shimon Chonos (author of the Toldos HaPoskim). See Ohr HaTzafun Journal (Tammuz 5775), how R. Yisoschar Dov of Belz exerted great effort during his exile to Munkacs during World War One to procure this particular first edition. R. Avrohom Abele HaLevi Gombiner (1637-1682), was one of the most prominent Achronim. He is primarily known for his magnum opus, his commentary on the Shulchan Oruch, Magen Avrohom.
