AMSTERDAM HAGADAH 2ND EDITION 1712 WITH MAP - AMSTERDAM HAGADAH. 2ND EDITION 1712. WITH MAP! In 1695 the first edition of the famous Amsterdam Haggadah appeared, with illustrations by the artist, Avrohom ben Yaakov (a convert to Judaism). It was the first Haggadah, and one of the first Hebrew books overall, to include illustrated copper engravings. This printing technique achieved a much more refined and detailed look, and it quickly became a model for many other subsequent Haggados, and to an extent it continues to influence Haggadah illustrations up until today. Includes the commentary of the Abarbanel. The illustrations of this 1712 Amsterdam Haggadah were nearly identical with those of 1695, however the frontispiece was changed and two new illustrations were added: a page with 13 vignettes depicting the sequence of the Passover Seder, and a page depicting the Ten Plagues. Of particular interest is the printed map of the Land of Israel added on a folding page at the end of the book. The map shows the route of the exodus from Egypt, through the desert, to the ultimate settlement in the Promised Land. Two title pages; the first of which is illustrated with an image of Moshe and Aaron. Yaari 73. Yudlov 120. Solomon Proops Press. 1, 31, 1 (folding map) pages. 30.2 cm. Overall fine condition, wine stains, some slight wear and small tears. Modern binding.
