Modersohn, Otto (1865 - 1943) - Allgäu - Spring in the Little Forest at the Hirschbach, 1939 Oil on canvas Signed and dated lower left 22 x 29.1 in The painting Allgäu-Frühling im Wäldchen am Hirschbach was created during Modersohn's time on the Gailenberg near Hindelang in the Allgäu, where he bought a small farmhouse in 1930, where he lived and worked during the summer months. A brightly lit spring landscape is accompanied by the mountains, which are in the background of the picture. The then 65-year-old found great interest in the scenic tension between the Allgäu mountain landscape and the North German lowlands. It is a recurring motif in his artworks. The authenticity of the work was confirmed by Rainer Noeres and included in the internal catalogue raisonné of the Otto Modersohn Museum, Fischerhude (WV-OM-SW-1939, no. 72.).
