Armenian Pottery Plate - Jerusalem, Palestine - Armenian ceramic plate decorated with vegetal patterns. Painted and glazed clay. Marked at the bottom with the signature of the Joint Worshop Balian Karakashian. Jerusalem, Palestine, circa the 1930s. The Armenian pottery workshop in Jerusalem was founded in 1919, at the end of WWI, when the British invited the iznik master potter David Ohannessian to help with the restoration of the tiles of the Dome of the rock mosque in Jerusalem. The workshop produced ceramics in the traditional Iznik style. Diameter: approximately 20 cm. Good condition, chips, cracked glaze, wear. * All lots in this auction are located in South Carolina.
