Delphin Massier (French, 1836-1907) Large Pair of Faience Vases, Vallauris - A Large Pair of French Faience Blossom Form Vases, Delphin Massier (1836-1907), Vallauris, Late 19th Century. Each with butterfly handles. Signed to the underside 'DELPHIN. MASSIER / VALLAURIS. A.M. / V.' and 'DELPHIN. MASSIER / VALLAURIS / A.M'. Dimensions: Each is 11” in diameter and 29” tall. Provenance: Property from a Bucks County, Pennsylvania Collection Curated by Bennett and Judie Weinstock, Philadelphia. Literature: A similar pair are pictured in 'Massier, L'Introduction de la Ceramique Artistique sur La Cote d'Azur', p. 84. Condition: Each of the vases have been drilled for lamp conversion to the sides. The vase with multi-colored butterflies has a break and re-stuck repair to the petal rim at top. The vase with yellow butterflies has extensive restoration to the top 1/3 just above the butterfly with associated re-paint. Under UV light the repairs fluoresce.
