George III Style Inlaid and Crossbanded Satinwood 'Carlton House' Desk - A George III Style Inlaid and Crossbanded Satinwood 'Carlton House' Desk, 20th Century. In one-part. The superstructure having a bank of ten small drawers and two small cupboards above a tooled leather inset writing panel over three drawers, raised on string inlaid square tapered legs, ending in brass casters. Oak drawer sides and bottoms. Dimensions: Height 39 1/2in; width 54in; depth 28 1/2in. Provenance: Property from a Main Line Collection. Footnote: In 1783, the Prince of Wales was given Carlton House for his London residence. The writing table, based on a 'bureau à gradin', came to be known as a 'Carlton House' desk and was referred to as such in the records of the Gillows firm in 1796. There is rosewood example now in the collection of Buckingham Palace,  originally at Carlton House. Condition: Structurally sound. Typical marks, wear, nicks, abrasions and surface scratches. No key.
