A Pennsylvania Federal Inlaid Cherry Secretary Bookcase, Circa 1800.

The upper section with dentil molded cornice above a pair of string inlaid blind doors enclosing three shelves. The lower section with hinged fall having mitered corners and thumb molded edge, enclosing an interior fitted with a central walnut and satinwood veneered prospect door, concealing two small drawers and two valanced pigeon holes, flanked by document drawer, further flanked by one over two small drawers above four valanced pigeon holes to either side, all above four string inlaid graduated drawers, flanked by vertical string inlay to the canted corners over a shaped skirt, raised on 'French' bracket feet. Walnut and tulip poplar secondary wood, having full depth dust boards.

Dimensions: Height 77in; width 43 3/4in; depth 22 1/4in.

Provenance: Property from a New Jersey Private Collection.


Condition:

The upper and lower sections are together by association. Structurally sound. In an overall refinished condition. The upper section with significant shrinkage and age cracks to the veneered doors. There is a small glued-repair to the top right corner of the cornice molding. The lower section secretary with age cracks to the fall and small patched repair to the lower right corner. The hardware is replaced.
