A Five Gallon Pennsylvania Cobalt Blue Stencil Decorated Salt Glazed Stoneware Jar, Hamilton & Jones, Greensboro, Circa 1875. The cylindrical jar with semi-rounded rim above a tooled shoulder and applied lug handles to either side, the stencil decoration inscribed, "HAMILTON & JONES / STAR POTTERY, / GREENSBORO, / PA." surrounded by stylized floral and star motifs above a large "5". Having an Albany slip interior.
Dimensions: Height 15in; diameter 9 1/2in.
Provenance: Property from a Buck County, Pennsylvania Private Collection.
Condition:
Vertical hairline to the backside. Typical wear and discoloration from the kiln overall. Minor chips and wear to the foot. Imperfections from manufacture throughout.
