George III Mahogany Secretary Bookcase, Early 19th Century - A George III Mahogany Secretary Bookcase, Early 19th Century The upper section with a removable molded cornice over a pair of paneled doors, enclosing an a shelved interior with adjustable pigeon holes over four small drawers, the lower section having a hinged fall enclosing a pull out secretary fitted with five small pigeon holes flanked by a small bank of four drawers to either side, and an inset tooled leather writing panel, above three graduated drawers and a base molding, ending with bracket feet. Oak drawer sides and bottoms. Dimensions: Height 81 1/2in; width 50in; depth 23 1/4in. Provenance: From a New Jersey Collection. Condition: In three parts. In an overall restored condition. Scattered small nicks, abrasions, surface scratches and small losses. Vertical age cracks to the sides of case with filling in. The brass hardware is replaced. Evidence of old wood worm. The brass hardware is later replacements hiding plugged holes to drawer fronts. No keys.
