Pennsylvania Chippendale Walnut Slant Front Desk, Second Half 18th Century - A Pennsylvania Chippendale Walnut Slant Front Desk, Second Half 18th Century The blind dovetailed rectangular top over a hinged thumb molded fall with mitered corners, enclosing an interior fitted with a central paneled prospect door to reveal a removable bank of pigeon holes, concealing four secret drawers, flanked by fluted columns to the document drawer fronts, further flanked by three valance drawers over pigeon holes and two rows of small drawers to either side, all above four graduated drawers, flanked by fluted quarter columns over a molded base, raised on ogee bracket feet. Tulip poplar secondary wood, having full depth dust boards. Dimensions: Height 44 1/2in; width 45 1/4in; depth 23 3/4in; case width 41 3/4in. Condition: Structurally sound. In an overall good restored condition. Scattered small patches and repairs. Typical marks, wear, nicks and small losses commensurate with age and use. The fall front with patches repairs where the hinges tore out. The valance drawers with filling-in to the fronts where brass pulls once were. The prospect door needs screws for hinges. The feet with some rebuilding and replaced elements. The brass hardware is replaced. There is a secondary set of holes to drawer fronts. No key.
