American Folk Art Landscape, Probably New York, 19th Century - An American Folk Art Landscape, Probably New York, 19th Century Depicting a central log house surrounded by farm animals and young girl with dog. Oil on tine. Unsigned. In a carved giltwood and gesso frame. Pencil inscription verso: ”Painted by a Seneca / Indian who lived at / Peach Orchard 1829 / of a log house which / stood there he started it in 1829 / + finished it in 1830”. The surface having faintly visible ghost impressions were the artist has painted over and changed the composition of their own work numerous times. Dimensions:  Tin panel 19 1/2 x 22 1/2in; Frame 21 3/4 x 24 1/2in. Condition: General marks, wear, abrasions, scuffs and surface scratches to the tine panel. Minor losses to surface along edges. The frame with typical wear and rubbing back to gilding and minor losses to gilding and gesso, otherwise good condition.
