Continental School (19th Century) Pastoral Landscape, Oil on Canvas - Continental School (19th Century) Pastoral Landscape A pastoral landscape with pond and greenery, centered by a large tree and herd of deer grazing in the meadow to the distance. Oil on canvas, with indistinct inscription to lower right. Dimensions: Canvas 38 1/2 x 47 1/2in; Frame 51 1/2 x 42 1/2in. Provenance: Property from a New Hope, Pennsylvania Estate. Condition: Examined under UV light. The canvas has been relined. There are three large patches at reverse to the upper left and lower right with associated touch-up to the front of canvas. With craquelure overall, frame abrasions to edges and stretcher wear. The giltwood frame with dust accumulation, nicks, typical wear and rubbing back with red bole showing through.
