English Delftware Blue and White Puzzle Jug, Probably Liverpool, Circa 1760 - An English Delftware Blue and White Puzzle Jug, Probably Liverpool, Circa 1760 With pierced collar, hand-painted with a script verse, ”Here gentlemen come try your skill / I'le hold a Wager if you will. . . . / That you don;t drink this Liquor all / Without you spill or lett some fall”. With Jonathan Horne Antiques, London label to the underside. Dimensions: Height 7in; width 5 1/2in; length across handle 7in. Provenance: Purchased with Jonathan Horne Antiques, London, June 13, 1986. Property from a Greater Philadelphia Estate. Condition: Examined under UV light. Wear commensurate with age and use. Restoration visible. Some glaze chips to rim and body. The handle with over-painted restoration at the base where it connects to jug above foot. Each of the three spouts with over-painted restoration. Scattered areas of minor restoration and over-paint to pierced collar. With typical firing and glazing imperfections throughout, some minor surface scratching and small chips at extremities. Otherwise good condition.
