English Creamware Covered Tea Caddy, 18th Century; Dutch Interest - An English Creamware Covered Tea Caddy, Fourth Quarter 18th Century Of Dutch interest; polychrome decorated predominantly in iron red with portraits of William V, Prince of Orange (1748-1806) and Princess Wilhemina of Prussia (1751-1820), facing each other beneath an Orange tree. Inscribed, 'P V / O R' [Prins van Oranje, or Prinz Willem van Oranje]. Inscribed to the reverse ”siet wat / hier / van agteren / staat” [see what is written here from behind] and to the underside ”bid voor u / vorst wenst / hem goen /  hwaad” [pray for your your prince, wish him good health]. Dimensions: Height 5in; diameter 3 1/4in. Provenance: Property from a Greater Philadelphia Estate. Condition: Examined under UV light, there is no fluorescence. Typical firing and glazing imperfections. Minor discoloration to cream body. Rubbing to decoration.
