George III Mahogany Secretary Bookcase, Fourth Quarter 18th Century - A George III Mahogany Secretary Bookcase, Fourth Quarter 18th Century The upper section with a dentil molded cornice above a pair of raised panel blind doors enclosing a shelved interior above two candle slides. The lower section having a hinged fall with mitered corners and thumb molded edge, enclosing an interior fitted with a spring release removable center section faced by fluted pilasters flanking a prospect door, concealing two hidden document drawers to the reverse, further flanked by two pigeon holes and four small drawers to either side, all above four cockbeaded graduated drawers, raised on straight bracket feet. Oak and pine secondary wood. Dimensions: Height 88 1/2in; width 43 3/4in; depth 23in. Provenance: From a Local Collection. Condition: Structurally sound. Warm color to surface throughout. Minor fading to the right side of the lower section. There is a 4” x 2” triangular patch to the left side of the lower section. The current brass bail hardware are old replacements, they are hiding a secondary set of holes to drawer fronts (now plugged). Typical marks, wear, nicks, abrasions, surface scratches and small losses.
