American Slate Blue-Painted Pine Blanket Chest, Early 19th Century - An American Slate Blue-Painted Pine Blanket Chest, Early 19th Century The rectangular hinged scrubbed top with molded edge, enclosing an open box with right covered till, above a scalloped skirt, raised on spurred bracket feet. Dimensions:  Height 25 1/4in; width 42 1/2in; depth 17in. Provenance: From the Dorothea & Tom Buckner Estate. Dotty (Dorothea) and Tom Buckner began collecting Early American painted primitive furniture and accessories in 1979 and over the next 22 years they were regular buyers from a number of respected Bucks County, Pennsylvania antique dealers. Condition: Structurally sound. Originally having snipe hinges, now with later iron hinges. Retaining a very old re-paint. Heavy marks, wear, nicks, abrasions, and surface scratches overall. Lacking lock and key. Condition: Structurally sound. Age crack to top. Heavy wear to the painted surface overall.
