New England Federal Painted Mule Chest, Circa 1800 - A New England Federal Painted Mule Chest, Circa 1800 The hinged rectangular top with applied molded edge enclosing an open interior with right covered till, over two long thumb molded drawers, base molding, raised on bracket feet. Dimensions: Height 42 3/4in; width 39 1/2in; depth 17 3/4in. Provenance: From the Dorothea & Tom Buckner Estate. Dotty (Dorothea) and Tom Buckner began collecting Early American painted primitive furniture and accessories in 1979 and over the next 22 years they were regular buyers from a number of respected Bucks County, Pennsylvania antique dealers. Condition: Structurally sound. Over paint removal to reveal original painted surface. The brass hardware with darkening and toning overall, likely replaced. Secondary holes drilled to drawer fronts. Traces of earlier painted surfaces.
