Delaware Valley Bamboo-Turned Balloon Back Windsor Chair, William Cox - A Delaware Valley Black-Painted Bamboo-Turned Balloon Back Windsor Side Chair, William Cox (American, d. 1811), Late 18th / Early 19th Century Mixed wood, nine-spindle back over a shaped seat, the legs joined by an H-stretcher. Branded stamp 'W COX' to the underside of seat. Dimensions: Height 37in; width 17 1/2in; depth of seat 15 1/2in; seat height 17in. Provenance: From a Local Estate.  Footnote: William Cox is recorded as a chair maker is Newcastle, Delaware and Philadelphia, 1767-ca. 1804. Retaining an old painted flakey surface over an earlier white paint. Chips, flaking, chips and small losses throughout.
