George II Black and Gilt Japanned Chinoiserie Decorated Tall Case Clock, Clapham - A George II Black and Gilt Japanned Chinoiserie Decorated Tall Case Clock, Clapham, Mid 18th Century The twelve-inch arched brass dial with silvered chapter ring having Roman hours and Arabic minutes with a subsidiary seconds dial, date aperture and two arbors to the matte center, a silvered plaque inscribed 'B Badoy / Clapham', within cast spandrels, 'strike / silent' dial to the lunette, the twin train movement with five knopped pillars, and anchor escapement striking on a bell. The hood with 'pagoda' top above a molded arched cornice and conforming glazed dial door, flanked by a pair of engaged colonnettes to the front and rear, rectangular side lights, the cove molded rectangular waist with molded tombstone door, above a molded plinth box base. Oak and pine case. Dimensions: Height 88in; width 19 3/4in; depth 10in. Provenance: Property from the Naylor Estate, Malvern, Pennsylvania. Condition: The case with heavy wear, nicks, and loss to the decorated surface. Shrinkage and age cracks. With pendulum, two weights and case key. The seat board is replaced. At the time the condition report was conducted, the clock was currently maintaining power and striking correctly. We cannot guarantee the completeness or functionality of the clock's movement.
