Regency Black and Gilt-Japanned Papier Mache Tray, Henry Clay, Early 19th Century - A Regency Black and Gilt-Japanned Papier Mache Tray, Henry Clay (flourished, 1772-1812), Early 19th Century, The Stand Later The tray decorated with butterflies and foliage, with raised tapering molded sides, stamped to the underside 'CLAY / KING St. / COVt. GARDEN'. Raised on an associated faux bamboo stand of a later date. Dimensions: Height 20 1/2in; width 30in; depth 22 3/4in. Provenance: Property from the Naylor Estate, Malvern, Pennsylvania. Condition: Structurally sound. Craquelure and wear to the surface throughout. Typical marks, nicks abrasions, surface scratches and small losses. Wax residue to the tray top.
