Chippendale Carved Mahogany Armchair, Second Half 18th Century - A Chippendale Carved Mahogany Armchair, Probably Mid-Atlantic States, Second Half 18th Century The shaped crest rail above a Gothic tracery pierced splat, the outspread arms with scrolled terminals, joining a trapezoidal slip seat, over a shaped front rail, raised on cabriole front legs with shell carved knees, terminating in pad feet,  the rear legs with stump feet. Dimensions: Height 39 3/4in; width 27in; depth of seat 17 1/2in; seat height 17 1/2in. Provenance: Property from the Naylor Estate, Malvern, Pennsylvania. Condition: Structurally sound. Scattered spliced repairs throughout. Some rebuilding and re-carving to the handholds. All four glue blocks are replaced. Wear and fading to the needlework slip seat. The seat frame is replaced. All the glue block are old replacements. Possibly formerly a potty chair.
