English 'Peter Rabbit' Polychromed Child's Chair, First Quarter 20th Century - An English 'Peter Rabbit' Polychromed Child's Chair, First Quarter 20th Century The back with carved and painted initials 'JH', the arms shaped as Peter Rabbit wearing his blue coat and handkerchief of onions and his mother holding a posy of flowers. With applied label to the reverse inscribed ”COPYRIGHT / F. WARNE and CO. LTD. / MADE BY G.L. NEWALL / MATTINGLEY GREEN / Nr. BASINGSTOKE. HANTS.” Dimensions: Height 30 1/4in; width 17in; depth of seat 11 3/4in; depth overall 13 1/2in. Provenance: Sold Christie's, London, ”Dolls and Dolls' Houses”, May 18, 2000, Lot 644. Property from the Naylor Estate, Malvern, Pennsylvania. Condition: Structurally sound. In overall good condition. General marks, wear, nicks,  abrasions and surface scratches. Old reinforcement to the seat where boards meet underneath.
