George III Oak Slant Front Desk, Late 18th Century - A George III Oak Slant Front Desk, Late 18th Century The rectangular top over a hinged fall with mitered corners, enclosing an interior fitted with a central inlaid prospect door, flanked by leather book spine document drawers, further flanked by three pigeon holes and three small drawers to either side, all above one long over two short, over two long graduated drawers, raised on bracket feet. Oak and pine secondary wood. Dimensions: Height 39 1/4in; width 37in; depth 20in. Provenance: From a Delaware Collection. Condition: Structurally sound. General marks, wear, nicks, abrasions, surface scratches and small losses throughout. Shrinkage and vertical age cracks to either side of case. The brass hardware are 19th century replacements. Secondary sets of plugged holes to drawer fronts. The brass hinges are replaced with associated patches from the hinged fall tearing off.
