RABBI YAAKOV YOSEF LEIFER, REBBE OF TEMESZVAR – UNGVAR. POST-HOLOCAUST APPEAL LETTER TO EZRAS TORAH RELIEF ORGANISATION. 1948. A moving letter by Rabbi Yaakov Yosef Leifer of Temeszvar – Ungvar to the Ezras Torah relief organisation shortly after the Holocaust. Rabbi Leifer writes: ‘... I returned to see if something of my ancestor’s toil was left, but found nothing... The winter cold is upon us and I have to buy wood. Me and my wife do not have adequate clothing, ... my shoes are torn and I cannot even have them repaired, one cannot imagine or tell the poverty and pressure we are suffering’. Rabbi Yaakov Yosef Leifer (1923-1999), son of Rabbi Reuven Menachem of Temeszvar – Ungvar, of the Nadvorna chassidic dynasty. Rebbe in Temeszvar, and later in New York. 2 sides. 21.5 x 30.5 cm.
