After Maruyama Okyo ”Eguichi no Kimi” Painting - Shita-e painting after Maruyama Okyo's (1733-1795) work depicting Eguchi no kimi (Lady Eguchi). The work is of a Buddhist trope of enlightened deities astride an emblematic white elephant. By replacing the deity with a beautifully coiffed modern courtesan the image challenges the notion that only superior beings could be considered sacred. Drawn in ink and painted. 32”H X 24”W Condition: General wear including creasing and some folds along the edges. A small loss along the left and upper edges.
