Huanghuali Box (19th Century Northern China) - Huanghuali wood storage box. Measures approximately 6” x 4” x 3.75” tall. Per tag, from 19th century northern China (Qing Dynasty). Hasp, plate, and hinges appear to be brass. Includes copy of original purchase receipt from Pagoda Red in Chicago, Il. There is a store sticker on the bottom of the box, and some wear on the bottom. Huanghuali (Chinese Rosewood, Dalbergia odorifera) is a rare tree that grows only in four provinces of China. It was harvested for its tropical hardwood in furniture making. Today it is listed as vulnerable by IUCN.
