George Frear Patent Model Brick Machine, 1868 Chgo - Patent model for a brick and concrete press by George A. Frear of Chicago. Has what appears to be original hand written patent tag (patent No. 84485) with patent date of December 1 1868. Also includes the handwritten patent application tag dated June 2 1868, and a tag from the Cliff Peterson Collection. Model is made of wood. May be missing a lever arm. Includes printed copy of original diagram and description. Measures approximately 9.75” x 8.75” x 11” tall. Weight: approximately 2.7 pounds. Signs of wear and light damage. In February of 1868, Frear had earned a separate patent for the manufacture of what became known as ”Frear stone” - cast stone largely used for building ornamentation and building blocks - this presumably is the machine in which the pieces were made. Please see photos for details and condition.
