Signed by the artist, beneath the caption ”Governor Ryan's Trial Opening Day”. George H. Ryan served as governor of Illinois from 1999-2003. In 2005, the former governor Ryan was put on trial for (and found guilty of) racketeering, bribery, extortion, tax fraud, and money laundering. Cheryl Cook, in addition to her private business of painting and teaching, was a courtroom sketch artist for the Chicago Tribune and CBS.
