A Group of Four Modern Swiss Commemorative Postage Stamps, Including ”Jura - 23rd Canton” - A group of four modern Swiss commemorative postage stamps, all printed on perforated paper and marked ”HELVETIA” and ”COURVOISIER.” The top row features two 80-cent stamps. The left stamp, apparently unused, commemorates the ”50th SALON INTERNATIONAL DE L'AUTOMOBILE GENÈVE 1980” with an illustration of a vintage car. The right stamp, with a faint wavy postmark, commemorates the ”2e Triennale internationale de la photographie Fribourg 1978” with a stylized camera lens and a spectrum. The bottom row consists of two 40-cent stamps, celebrating ”JURA - 23rd CANTON OF THE CONFÉDÉRATION” with depictions of the Swiss and Jura cantonal coats of arms. These lower stamps are heavily overstamped with circular date stamps, the one on the right legibly reading ”PORRENTRUY -1.II.70.-16” (1 February 1970). It is important to note a chronological discrepancy, as Jura was established as the 23rd canton in 1979, suggesting that the 1970 postmark may be an anomaly, a backstamping, a cancellation error, or a forgery, since the stamp itself was issued after 1979.
