A MORO TORCH-BEARING SCULPTURE, Venice, 19th century - h tot. cm 183 cm Carved, lacquered, and polychrome wood, it depicts a figure in an orientalist style, dressed in a cream-colored lacquered tunic enriched with gilded details and a striped drapery at the waist. In the left hand, the figure holds a three-flame gilt bronze candlestick, embossed with floral motifs. The figure stands on an octagonal lacquered and painted wooden base, decorated in the central section with a carved Lion of Saint Mark. The base bears the signature “V. Maroder, Venezia.”
