AMERICAN CIVIL WAR-ERA CONFEDERATE P53 ENFIELD RIFLE-MUSKET - An American Civil War-era P53 Pattern 3 Enfield rifle-musket in .577 caliber with English cartouches and proofing marks consistent with the 1862 Birmingham or London made ”Tower” engraved percussion-lock, with proof mark variations consistent with non-government commercial sale to the Confederacy. Interestingly, the stock opposite the lock-face has a circular hand-carved indent, probably for an inset personal medallion or coin, but it has since been removed or lost. The rifle includes the original bayonet.
