WILLIAM SAMUEL PARROTT 'ALONG THE COLUMBIA (KRAKATOA VOG SUNSET)' OIL PAINTING - From the Michael Parson's collection and featured in the Oregon Painters book, original oil painting on board by listed Oregon artist, William Samuel Parrott (OR, CA, 1843 - 1915), signed lower left. Features the Columbia River Gorge at sunset with a glowing crimson sky created by the famous Krakatoa sunset of 1883. Oregon, being on the Pacific rim and directly downwind across the ocean, was among the regions where these atmospheric effects were observed early and strongly. Art measures 11.5” H x 17.5” W presented in a frame measuring 20.5” H x 26” W x 4” D.  Artist bio: Parrott was an American-born landscape painter active in the Pacific Northwest, known for luminous depictions of Mount Hood, Mount Shasta, Crater Lake, and the Columbia River Gorge. Establishing a Portland studio in 1867, he painted extensively across Oregon, Washington, and California, and also taught, counting Eliza Barchus among his pupils. His work was featured in exhibitions such as the 2008 Pittock Mansion show, and today is held in collections including the Portland Art Museum.
