LATE 19TH C. IMPERIAL GERMAN MILITARY HUNTER'S SMOKING PIPE CANE - A late 19th century Imperial German military service member's commemorative smoking pipe cane, in the German Black Forest huntsman style, with painted porcelain, cork, carved wood, antlers, and a twist of de minimus ivory. The pipe bowl commemorates the hunter's military service from 1893-1895, and the hunter's pipe itself is carved and dated 1897-1900, after service. The pipe bowl porcelain is painted for one ”Jager Giedeman”, literally ”Hunter Giedeman”. At the time, the ”Jager” military designation denoted an independent light infantry skirmisher or sharpshooter whose former civilian occupation was most often a hunter or forester. The pipe is decorated with silk fastening string and twists that helps prevent the loss of pieces when disassembled. The pipe measures just over 55” L, or 55” H x 4” W x 4” D for shipping purposes.
