GABRIEL VIARDOT (1830-1906) (Attribution) - Chinoiserie / Japonism Tea table - France, 19th century, ebonized beechwood well carved with openwork decoration of stylized elements, plant motifs and ruyis, and upper top with incised floral motifs. Signs of use. Dim.: 85.5x75x47.5cm. Gabriel Viardot (1830 - 1904) was a Parisian cabinetmaker specializing in the production of freely interpreted ”Chinese-Japanese style” furniture adapted to European tastes. He exhibited at the 1889 Paris World's Fair and was awarded a gold medal. He received the same award at the 1900 World's Fair.
