Bidspirit auction | Antique Volume of Latter Prophets

Antique Volume of Latter Prophets (Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel) with Rashi & Ivri-Teitsch – Grosswardein Yetev Lev Beit Medrash Provenance - Content: This lot features a single, historic volume from an antique Hebrew Bible (Tanakh) containing the complete books of the Latter Prophets (Nevi'im Acharonim): Isaiah (ישעיה), Jeremiah (ירמיה), and Ezekiel (יחזקאל). The text is arranged with the Hebrew Biblical text surrounded by the classic commentary of Rashi (רבי שלמה יצחקי) and a continuous translation and explanation in Ivri-Teitsch (Western Yiddish in Rabbinic script). Printers' Poem: The conclusion of the Book of Isaiah features a beautiful, traditional printers' closing poem utilizing the standard formula beginning with ”חזק ונתחזק” to celebrate the completion of the text. Historic Provenance (Community Stamps): The volume bears significant historical importance due to a prominent ownership stamp repeated on multiple pages. The stamp explicitly identifies the book as belonging to the Yetev Lev Beit Medrash in Grosswardein (שייך לביה”מ ייטב לב דגראססווארדיין / Nagyvárad), the famed Hungarian/Transylvanian stronghold of the Sighet and Satmar dynasties. The bottom of the stamp features a traditional warning against removing the holy book from the study hall. This stamp directly links the volume to the vibrant pre-war Chassidic study halls that were largely devastated during the Holocaust. Unique Ownership Marks: The flyleaves and endpapers are covered in numerous handwritten signatures, inscriptions, and practice scripts from past generations of students, providing a tangible record of its extensive history of use.
