TWO PIECES OF OHIO STONEWARE - Includes a cylindrical jar marked for Prosper Rich, Muskingum County, 1830s, 10” high; togerh with a one-gallon jar with a clear stencil for James Benjamin's Stoneware Depot, Cincinnati, 10” high. Accoring to Carskadden and Gartley (eds.), James L. Murphy's Checklist of 19th-Century Bluebird Potters and Potteries of Muskingum County, Ohio, this mark was used when Rich was working in Springfield Township, Muskingum County in the 1830s. Provenance: private collection. Condition: Both very good; the Benjamin has a period lid that sits atop the rim.
