PROFILE PORTRAIT OF A GENTLEMAN - Probably Ohio or Indiana, c. 1831, pencil/graphite on paper. Portrait of a balding gentleman wearing a black coat and frilly cravat. 9.5” high, 7.5” wide (sight); 15.5” high, 13.5” wide (overall). Though he is unsigned, he is believed to be part of the family group of portraits represented by lots 26, 27, and 28. The artist is unkown and does not appear to match one of the other ”four Ohio folk artists” as detailed by Kern, Kern, Warwick, Warwick in ”Four Ohio Nineteenth Century Folk Artists” (Magazine Antiques, August, 2007). Provenance: private collection. Condition: Lightly toned, tissue-hinged to the backing board.
