Bidspirit auction | TWO OHIO CHAIRS

TWO OHIO CHAIRS - 19th century. Includes a ”peasant” chair similar to those made and used in Zoar, 37” high; together with a possibly Shaker ladderback with attached folding stool, 32” high. The first was purchased from Jack Adamson Sr. (Ohio), who collected it locally to Zoar, but he did not think it of Zoar origin. Other Midwestern-German communities also made and used such chairs, including the Mennonites at Sonnenberg (now Kidron). See Richmond, Equal in Goodness: Ohio Decorative Arts, 1788-1860, entry 54. Provenance: private collection. Condition: Both with original finish, Shaker chair with some wear and minor damage.
