Oblong, octagonal platter with central transfer print titled ”GENTLEMEN'S CABIN.”, on the back is a retailer's stamp: ”MANUFACTURED FOR N.E. JANNEY & CO. ST LOUIS MO. FROM DRAWINGS BY H.S. BLOOD FROM DRAWINGS FURNISHED THEM.”, 15.5” long. Provenance: Dan Blazer Collection, Gallipolis, Ohio. In 1835, Nathaniel Janney opened up his store in the booming river city of St. Louis, and ran it until he retired in 1848. In the early 1840s, Janney advertised ?Steamboat Ware...gotten up expressly for the western boats, from patterns and drawings sent to the manufacturers by us.
