THREE EARLY OHIO PHOTOGRAPHS - Includes a quarter plate daugerreotype by William North, Cleveland; together with a sixth plate ambrotype identified as Caroline Hoyt and baby George of Perry, Ohio; and a sixteenth plate daguerreotype identified as Kate Taylor of Cincinnati. Caroline Westscott Hoyt was born in 1827 in Otsego, New York, and she married Comfort Hoyt (1811-1866) in Lake County, Ohio, in 1846. They had at least five children together, but their eldest son was George Mygatt Hoyt, born 1851. He died shortly before his third birthday in 1854, and they had another son in 1856 that they also named George Mygatt Hoyt, who died in 1933. The note with this case indicates that the writer believes this George to be ”first little George.” Caroline lived with her youngest daughter Lucy, who never married, until her death in 1906.Provenance: The Collection of Dr. Virginia Gunn, Wooster, Ohio. Condition: Some solarization to Kate Taylor, the other images pretty clean; the two larger cases are separated.
