ANNA POTTERY STONEWARE RAILROAD PIG FLASK - Wallace and Cornwall Kirkpatrick, Anna, Illinois, c. 1875. Molded pig with hindquarters spout and elaborate incised railroad map and inscriptions. 8.5” long. The elaborate incised map includes the inscription ?St. Louis the future Capital / Latest & most Reliable Railroad / and River Guide / with a little good old rye in a hogs ->? pointing to the spout on the pig?s backside. Also incised is a map of the Mississippi River and various rail lines, with Chicago (?the Corn City?) at the northern end (the pig?s chin), and with Cincinnati ?the Pork Packing city? and Louisville (?falls & city?) on the belly. Also included are Anna (on the pig?s right leg, just next to the glaze defect), as well as Bloomington, Alton, Vincennes, Centralia, Carbondale, and other towns.
