1850 PETER RUTY GRAIN BAG STAMP - Likely Ohio, 1850, poplar. Wooden grain bag stamp for Peter Ruty, 1850. Original red paint, beginning of a circular carving on back. 6.5” high, 11.5” wide. A Peter Rutt was a moulder, producing molds for smithing and pottery, in Cincinnati in 1850. A Peter Ruty was listed as the father on Dora Root Vonier's Fulton County OH death record, but may have gone by Daniel Root in the 1870s onwards. Provenance: from a West Coast collection.
