OHIO MINIATURE BLANKET CHEST - Athens County, Ohio, mid-19th century, poplar. Miniature blanket chest painted red with yellow tree designs around sides, black accents. With lock and key, dovetail construction, bracket feet, fitted lid. A note on the inside of the lid says that it is ”150 years old [c. 1960], belonged to Michael Hubler, ” and was passed down in his family to his great-granddaughters the Hubler sisters. 8” high, 14” wide, 6.5” deep. Michael Hubler (c. 1806-1878) was born in Switzerland and died in Athens County, Ohio. The 1850 census lists him as a farmer, and the 1860 census lists him as a carpenter.
