Titled ”Bro ofver Skuyukill strommen nara Philadelphia.” A finely detailed scene by Axel Leonhard Klinckowstrom, engraved by Akrell, and published by C. Muller depicting America's first covered bridge over the Schuylkill River near Philadelphia. With a horse-drawn Conestoga wagon at bottom left and several houses in the background. Completed in 1805, the Schuylkill Permanent Bridge was celebrated as an engineering feat of its day, admired for both its length and its innovative design. This print reflects the fascination of European audiences with the growing city of Philadelphia and its ambitious infrastructure. Likely the source print for the Staffordshire plate ”Upper ferry bridge near the River Schykill” by Stubbs. A tag on the back notes provenance.
