PENNSYLVANIA PATCHWORK QUILT - American, 1829, cotton. A patchwork quilt composed of printed blue and cream fabrics with flowers and peacock feathers. An older label basted to it states that it was made in 1829 by Elizabeth Christman, Hoover. 90” long, 80” wide. Elizabeth Christman was born in 1815 in Westmoreland County, PA to John (1787-1850) and Mary (1789-1862). She was still living with her parents in 1850 when her father died. At some point in the 1850s, she married Henry B. Hoover (1813-1891) and moved west to Wayne County, Ohio. Provenance: The Collection of the late Dr. Virginia Gunn, Wooster, Ohio.
