TWO OVERSHOT COVERLETS - Two overshot coverlets. The first: probably Ohio, second quarter 19th century, wool. An overshot coverlet in red and blue, with Whig rose and dog paw centerfield, and double tree border. Fringed, with center seam. 82” long, 72” wide without fringe. All known coverlets with this pattern are attributed to Ohio. Together with a signed overshot coverlet: American, 1858, wool. A complex overshot coverlet in red, blue, and white with a gridlike pattern. One end fringed and tied. Signed ”1858 SG” in blue and yellow, ”FLORENCE” in red. Center seam. 89.5” long, 76” wide w/o fringe. Provenance: The Collection of the late Dr. Virginia Gunn, Wooster, Ohio.
