OHIO JACQUARD COVERLET, SIGNED G ROTTMAN - Coshocton Co., Ohio, mid-19th century. A jacquard coverlet in red, indigo, and white stripes with thin ribbons of opposite color down center of each stripe. Centerfield with a double rose tile offset with small blossom insets in a netlike border. Side borders contain distelfink (birds and rose trees). Bottom border contains rose vine above sawtooth. Top border with scrolls and geometric bands. Corner blocks with eagle and ”G Rottman.” Godfried Rottman wove coverlets in New Bedford, Coshocton Co., Ohio. All of his known corner blocks contain an eagle, but none are dated. Fringed on three sides. In two pieces (center seam not joined). Each side 79” long, 34” wide (68” wide total) w/o fringe. Provenance: The Collection of the late Dr. Virginia Gunn, Wooster, Ohio.
