OVERSHOT COVERLETS - American, 19th century. Two overshot coverlets: the first in red, blue, and white. Centerfield with stripes and clusters of small blossoms. Border with narrow feathered stripes. Formerly fringed. Center seam. 82” long, 64” wide w/o fringe; together with an overshot coverlet in shades of red and blue. Centerfield contains snowballs and squares in interlacing rings. Border contains undulating stripes. Fringed on three sides, with center seam. 74” long, 72” wide. Provenance: The Collection of the late Dr. Virginia Gunn, Wooster, Ohio. Condition: Red, blue, and white coverlet: Significant fringe loss. Top edge heavily worn with holes and weave breakage. One half discolored. Red and blue coverlet: Small hole in center seam. Slight discoloration (although consistency implies it could be the dye job).
